Let’s Fire Up The
Charcoal Barbeque Grill

Heat Up The Grill:
Your heat source is your first priority when grilling, as it can make or break how well your meal turns out. If you have been barbecuing for a while, you know that if your heat is not right you potentially end up with some pretty bad burned burgers or half done chicken. The Only time you should have any variation in heat is when you plan for it.
This is extremely vital when you’re cooking a massive amount of food on your 55 gallon grill. If you simply dump some charcoal in at random you’ll have hot and cool spots. You need to spread them out over the bottom basket, and have enough briquettes to cover the pan in a single layer and extending out about 2″ outside the area of the food on the griddle. This comes to about 30 charcoal briquettes per one pound of meat.
Carefully, infuse the Charcoal briquettes with some lighter fluid, a 1/ 4 to a 1/2 cup of lighter fluid, and then allow it to soak for a few minutes before lighting, or you can use a chimney starter. (see video)
Get out your charcoal briquettes, and set the briquettes in the lower grill pan to figure out the quantity of briquettes you will be using, and then stack them up in a coarse pyramid shape to light. The most effective way to do that is to put all the coals on one side of the griddle and no coals on the opposite side. On a gas griddle this is like turning the burner on one side on and leaving the other off, but with a charcoal griddle you can do even more than this. If you are employing a kettle style grill, you may use a strategy know as “The Ring of Fire”. All that is needed for this strategy is to bump the coals to the exterior of the coal grate leaving the middle empty after the coals are hot. This can serve as your warming area later on.
Hardwood chips when added to the charcoal can add some amazing flavor to your BBQ. Use slow burning wood chips and add them to your coals after the coals are embers, and let them infuse your food with their aromatic flavors.

Hi. Great site and great post. Thank you for taking time to share this with us.
I must say that I use my charcoal grill all year long. I’m an adict. Seriously, I couldn’t live without my charcoal grill.
That said, for any of those who are looking for a good charcoal grill, I strongly recommend Weber Charcoal grills. They’re the best of the grills you’ll find on the market right now. And you’ve got some spare money, get the chimney starter. It helps to start the grill and it’s more secure, in my opinion.
